keep breaking the rocktrap door thingy
« Thread Started on Nov 6, 2009, 6:32pm »

The door under the rocktrap (the one that the rock trap door latches to, that you remove with the thumbwheel on the left hand side.) keeps breaking on the right hand side/ I have field repaired it about three times it breaks where the arm comes up and meets. I am going to take it to the shop and weld it with the mig in the morning and brace it up/ why does it keep breaking? I can maybe see metal fatique but IDK on that.
Got 15 acres of beans to go have really been pounding out the acres this week.

Sounds like mine, except I ended up having to weld both sides. Field fixes never worked but once I used the mig it held. I ended up grinding both sides of the break at angles so I could get a good weld.

once the door is bent in the middle and doesn't fit flush every time the shoe comes ahead it puts pressure on the door so the arms break off. It's a poor design in my opinion.

So I am not the only one who has broken drums with rocks.....have the local welding shop trying to figure out if they can build one that is stronger.

Hey forgot to mention earlier that when I broke my last drum my feeder house slip clutch was set WAY to tight. Something had to give.

I think the newest front feed drum has a shaft all the way through so it does not just break the end of the drum off.

All of your problems can be fixed with the rock trap I PROMISE. Tell your Lexion dealer to get in contact with Jason Buckman (not sure on the spelling). He is the man and it is a simple timing glitch with the grain pan hitting the rock trap door. I broke at least 15 of them in 3 years on our 590R. Haven't broke one in almost 2 years. It is as simple as loosening some bolts and spinning pulleys until the pan is in the correct position then tightening the bolts back. I wish I could remember the sequence but I promise you he can help.
